The Old Mill at Pigeon Forge was built in 1830 by William Lowe. Grinding grain and corn was done on a two-ton French Buhrs wheel. The water from the Little Pigeon River turned the big water wheel to furnish the power. The interior of the Mill is hand-hewn hemlock and oak, held together with hickory pegs. Electricity for the town was generated by the Mill until 1930. Members of the Fred Stout family have owned and operated the Mill for nearly 60 years. This authentic, working mill is listed in the National Register of Historical Places.
